Library Quilt Update:
- We are taking donations of wonky houses and trees for a quilt to be made to benefit the library.
- We would like the blocks made with a white or a white on white background. The color and size of the houses are up to you. Have fun with them! There are lots of tutorials online on how to make wonky houses.
- A second quilt for the Library - a bookshelf quilt was suggested. We can assemble this on a Sewing Saturday, using white backgrounds and strips of solids/reads as solid materials. It would be very appropriate for a library quilt.
- The quilts hanging will be swapped out for new ones the first or second week in April. Please consider loaning a quilt or two to be displayed. Repeats are always accepted as well.
- If you would like to sell a quilt, the library suggests a 20% donation if it sells.
Charity Quilt Update:
Several message have been left with the St. Judes Charity Quilt Contact.
None have been returned at this time.
The questions are:
- How many quilts are on hand?
- What sizes are needed?
- Are skull prints acceptable for older kid sized quilts?
- We will update with info as soon as possible
Book Submission:
We discussed pitching a book of original designs and clever ideas to solve quilting problems.
Examples for projects were mug rugs, lap quilts, placemats.
We discussed what we could do with the profits of this project
Ideas were
- rent space in a local artists gallery
- use the space for meetings, classes, workshops
- buy a long arm machine
Show and Tell:
Pat showed
- a skateboard quilt top
- a Modern Blue Improv Quilt she designed
- a Pink and Orange Ginourmous Tote
- a Train Quilt that she donated to Charity
- a Ginourmous tote bag done in zipper themed fabric
- a photo of her Ginourmous tote
Stack and Whack Workshop:
Deb showed examples of fabric and rulers to use for the Stack and Whack workshop.
It was suggested to google Bethany Reynolds to familiarize yourself with the process.
- Deb showed how to audition fabric using 2 mirrors.
- and she suggested that you choose fabric with a good amount of background but not too much
- you can use 2 color fabric
- you need 6 repeats of the pattern
- if the pattern is less than a 12 inch repeat to get 12 to 14 repeats
- you are not looking at the print but at the colors
- you can use a floral but choose a bigger print
- try not to use identifiable objects
- she used birds as an example and it looked like birds in a blender
- try to avoid lines
- this is also called a kaleidoscope block
Pat demoed our new charity block based on the oriental garden block. and she showed several examples of the block that she had made and she provided a handout with instructions.
