Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to see the Faces of Our Community quilt unveiled at the North Huntsville Library. The quilt looks beautiful in it's new home and we are excited to see it every time we visit the library!

Our quilt has progressed nicely! The appliqued blocks have been joined and quilted, and the quilt bound! We are in the final stretch now of making and adding a label! That is the last step before the quilt is officially gifted to the North Huntsville Library for display.

So we are ready to celebrate! On Saturday, October 4th, at 10am we will have a short ceremony unveiling the quilt, followed by a public reception in the community room. Makers, please join us to see your block in the finished quilt and receive a small momento of your participation. Friends and family and the public are invited to attend to view the quilt and enjoy snacks and good company.

For our Faces of the Community Quilt we are using a raw edge applique technique to create the faces. During the design process, fabric is cut an fused into place. In order to ensure that all pieces remain securely attached, the next step is to stitch around the edges of each piece. Using a zig zag stitch reduces the potential for the edges to fray. 

Our guild has begun the process of stitching down the pieces on all of the blocks submitted. Here are a few sneak peeks of the stitched blocks!

Our Celebrate Quilting event this past weekend was a great success! Thank you to everyone who came out, our volunteers who worked hard to make it happen, our panelists who so generously shared their expertise, and the Huntsville Madison County Library for their partnership! Congratulations to our two winners who each took home a quilt!
