The RCMQG General Meeting was called to order by Amanda Conger, President, at
6:07 pm. Due to challenging weather conditions, the meeting was held via Zoom.
A total of 17 people attended via Zoom.
Amanda asked each of the attendees to introduce themselves. Those in
attendance did so, with officers identifying themselves and the leadership position
that they hold.
Amanda introduced the first challenge of the year for RCMQG members. The
name of the challenge is Panel Party. Members are asked to use a panel or panels
to make a quilt for St. Jude’s. Size guidelines were given. Amanda led a slide show
presentation detailing design approaches, borders, framing, examples, and
resources available for inspiration. Pam Casey shared that she checked out two
books on borders from the guild library that might be of use in this challenge. Pam
reminded members that library books will be available on Sewing Saturdays.
Amanda informed members that panels will be available at the February meeting.
Linda Hornsby said that coordinating fabric will also be available. The Members
may work individually or with other members in this challenge. Completed quilts
tops are due at the November meeting. All challenges completed on time will be
entered into a prize drawing.
Amanda reminded members to renew their membership if they have not done so
already. She informed members that the board purchased two EMEET speakers
and a 15 foot daisy chain cable upgrading the guild audio system for hybrid
meetings and Sewing Saturdays. The purchase was approved by the board in
December 2023 in order to have equipment in place for first in person sewing
Saturday of 2024.
Amanda informed members that the Leadership Retreat was held the first
weekend of January. New board members were onboarded and the 2024 calendar
was planned during the retreat.
Linda Christian, Secretary, shared National Updates. Faculty Applications for
QuiltCon 2025 in Phoenix are open until January 31, 2024. QuiltCon 2024
Streaming Lecture Pass is available for purchase; $265 charge for all lectures to
replay until March 4, 2024. Linda also informed members that scooter rental will
be available at QuiltCon in Raleigh. In addition, the MGQ is offering an Affinity
Space at QuiltCon for members of affinity groups such as Latinx, Black, and
LGBTQIA+ quilters.
Amanda reminded members of the following important dates:
February 10th – Sewing Saturday (Hybrid)
February 20th – General Meeting (Hybrid)
February 22nd – QuiltCon in Raleigh
Amanda asked members to renew their memberships by January 31st in order to
avoid having their membership dropped from the Guild and from National MGQ.
Guild dues are $36.50 for a renewing RCMQG member. The cost for a a member
renewing from another MQG is $18.25.
Amanda discussed current guild activities such as Quilts for St. Jude’s and
Pillowcases for the North Alabama Foster Closet. Linda Hornsby shared that she
has kits for both. The Guild Library has books available for check out. A selection
of books will be available for checkout at Sewing Saturdays each month.

Amanda presented the 2024 calendar month by month.
Amanda shared this month’s volunteer highlight. Volunteers are needed to assist
in sorting guild fabric for community outreach.
