Kaleidoscope Quilts

9/20/2022

If you were unable to attend the September meeting, you missed an informative program led by member Beverly Keyser on Kaleidoscope Quilts.

Beverly shared her quilts inspired by Bethany Reynolds' stack 'n whack method of cutting fabric. The fabric is then sewn to create a 'kaleidoscope' effect. Included in the presentation were numerous resources and tips on creating a successful and gorgeous stack 'n whack quilt.

A copy of the presentation may be found here.

Stash Building and Management

Each person, situation, space, circumstance, etc is different….so the way you build and manage your stash is different too and will change over time.

There is no one “correct” answer. This presentation provides questions and jumping off points to help you think about what will work for YOU.

MQG Webinar/Video Study Group

2/26/2022

The inaugural MQG Webinar/Video Study Group kicked off with an informative presentation on paper piecing. We watched the video Fresh Quilting Episode 210: Freeze Paper Piecing by Nicole Neblett. The discussion followed with members noting the ease with which freezer paper could be used for large scale piecing. A handout was also provided with instructions on how to use freezer paper for piecing.

Inset Cicles

7/20/2021

6 Minute Insert Circles by Dale Flemming
Notes on Dale's technique by Carole Lyles Shaw

Notes from Amanda:
  • Iron your two layers of freezer paper before starting
  • Templates can be used multiple times
  • I like circular ruler templates for making my circles, but they constrain you to the set sizes. Use a 28mm rotary cutter or smaller for best results.
  • For more flexibility in circle sizes, consider a compass with an exacto blade.
  • I found it easier to use a bottle of white glue as opposed to the the glue stick
  • The Sewline glue pen did not hold as well as the white glue---great for the gluing to the freezer paper step, not so good for the gluing to fabric step
  • I found it a bit difficult to see the crease as I was working around the circle. Might want to consider marking the crease before starting to sew.
  • A little hard to wrap my head around just watching but once I did it once, it clicked!
