Tory Padden, a costume designer with over 40 years experience, presented an introduction to fabric postcards. Postcard design elements were reviewed, including, size, foundation/fillers, design elements, backing, and finishing touches.
Amanda noted positive feedback from participants in the serger workshop. Additional classes in 2024 will be scheduled.
Danica reviewed current events with The Modern Quilt Guild, noting that QuiltCon registration is open, the conference hotels are sold out. Members were reminded that even if you are not planning to attend QuiltCon, you should still register for the show pass as this will allow you to download the QuiltCon app to see all the quilts in the show. Danica advised that while the lectures will not be online, the award show will be live-streamed.
Amanda reviewed the upcoming guild events, including: (i) September 9th - Sewing Saturday via Zoom; (ii) September 16th - Celebrate Quilting at the Richard Showers Community Center; and (iii) September 19th - General Meeting. Amanda provided further information about the Celebrate Quilting event, including discussing the need for members to volunteer to assist the day of the event or prior to the event by displaying advertising. Finally, at the September General Meeting, members were advised to bring supplies, or have them available, to make a fabric postcard based on Tory’s presentation.
Amanda noted that members may start getting items ready for the November auction. A volunteer is needed to photograph and track the auction times as they are submitted.
Pam noted that the final set of questions for the Secret Stitcher program have been distributed; members should mail their member make by September 30th.
Amanda announced the UFO Glow Up Challenge. Members are to take an orphan block or a UFO to finish into an item to donate to the auction. Items will be revealed at the October meeting. In addition, the September 9th Sewing Saturday will focus on the UFO Glow Up as a theme.
Sew & Tell presentation was shown. Figo/Northcott Fabrics sent many fabric donations, most notably panels for Alabama and Georgia if members are interested in sewing these.
