Amanda reviewed the current guild happenings, including: (i) the current challenges of Love Paper Piecing (reveal postponed to June) and the Send a Message challenge (reveal in July); (ii) the Slack organizational goal of the month of interfacing and batting; (iii) the community outreach block of crosses and pluses; and (iv) the Lone Robin Sew Along.
The next Community Outreach Work Session is June 4th at the South Huntsville Library, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The next Sewing Saturday is June 11th, beginning at 9:00 AM at S&R Sewing and Vacuum. The virtual component begins at 11:30 AM via Zoom. Drop and Swap will also occur at the Sewing Saturday. Coming on June 25th are the MQG Webinar Study Group at 7:00 PM and Game Night via Gather at 8:00 PM.
On leadership updates, the guild is looking into starting back up our annual trip to Wilson’s for their annual customer appreciation sale usually held the last weekend in July. Further information will be available.
On the National MQG front, the Ruby & Bee Challenge has been issued with sign up for free bundles on May 18th at 3:00 PM.
An update to the number of Community Outreach quilts was postponed to June. Members were reminded of the current Block of the Quarter — X’s and +’s. The background (corner squares) should be light low volume fabric with multi-colored fabric for the remaining pieces. The guild recently donated 27 pillowcases to the North Alabama Foster Closet. Members were reminded to go to the Community Outreach page on the website to record their contributions. Prizes will be awarded. I Spy Kits and Pillowcase Kits are available for pick up.
Information on the QuiltCon Community Outreach Challenge — Color Shift — was released. A volunteer is needed to manage the project. Members are requested to submit a design image to the guild by June 3rd. The image can be a drawing, a computer image, a picture or a link. Use of copyrighted designs must be approved by the designer. Remember this is a group project so think about how your design can be worked on by multiple people. Once all designs are submitted, there will be a survey for members to vote.
The DEA&I Committee is interested in hosting a community outreach event in the fall at the Richard Showers Community Center and we are looking for members to assist in this project.
The Fundraising Committee noted that items from the Green Pea Press campaign will begin shipping soon. A second Green Pea Press campaign for retreat t-shirts will occur later in the year. Volunteers are still needed at the Drop & Swaps to assist members in completing the Auction item forms for any donated items.
The Membership Committee reported that the guild currently has 39 members and the guild wished Charlotte, Linda C., Linda H., Diane, Melissa, Danica and Adrienne a Happy May Birthday!
The Secret Stitcher Swap for June is a fat quarter. Members may treat their partner during May, but it is not required.
Registration is now open for the retreat to be held the last weekend in September. We currently have 8 in-person and 1 virtual registrants. Registration will close in August.
Crystal reviewed the batting and interfacing organizational challenge.
The first combined in-person and virtual Sewing Saturday was a Success at S&R Sewing and Vacuum Center.
The Quarterly Bingo cards consisting of member personal goals and guild goals will be distributed by April 29th. If your card gets two Bingo Rows, either vertical, horizontal, or diagonal, please send an email to the guild or post to Slack.
The next Lone Robin design element was revealed — Tetrominoes! Add Tetris block shapes to your existing quilt.
The guild then hosted a member to member Destash Swap and Sale.
