Amanda reviewed the current guild happenings, including: (i) the current challenge of Send a Message (reveal in August); (ii) the Slack organizational goal of the month of rulers; and (iii) the new community outreach block of warp and weft.
The next Community Outreach Work Session will be in September. The next Sewing Saturday is September 10th, beginning at 11:30 AM via Zoom.
On leadership updates, elections for vacant positions will be discussed in September. Members were encouraged to volunteer for a leadership position.
On the National MQG front, registration for QuiltCon 2023 began today. Members were reminded of to register for the MQG Sessions, a new virtual event to be held October 13th -16th.
The Community Outreach Committee delivered 28 quilts this week to the St. Jude Clinic in Huntsville. Thank you to all members who have worked on these quilts. A new Block of the Quarter - Warp and Weft - was revealed. Members were reminded to go to the Community Outreach page on the website to record their contributions. Prizes will be awarded. I Spy Kits and Pillowcase Kits are available for pick up. A volunteer is needed to lead the monthly Community Outreach work days at the South Huntsville Library.
The DEA&I Committee will meet on August 20th to discuss the community outreach event.
The Fundraising Committee informed us that volunteers are needed to assist with several key duties of the auction: (i) photographing auction items; (ii) documenting auction items received; and (iii) writing descriptions for the auction items. Members were reminded to use Amazon Smiles if you purchase anything from Amazon as the guild receives a percentage of the sale at no extra cost to the member.
The Membership Committee reported that the guild currently has 39 members and the guild wished Beverly, Debby and Glenn a Happy Birthday!
Members were encouraged to submit photographs of their “sewing pet pals” for inclusion on the guild’s social media accounts.
Members were advised that the retreat location and dates are being changed. The retreat, now scheduled for September 29th to October 2nd, will be held at Crafter Retreats in Canton, Georgia. While food is not included with the location, there are nearby restaurants and/or delivery options. The facility has a full kitchen for our use. Members can either register for the “at home” or “in person” options.
Registration is now open for the Carolina Oneta Watercolor Quilt workshop to be held on October 22nd; members may attend virtually or in-person at Calico Cove.
Members are encouraged to send pictures of their Sewing Pet Pals for inclusion on Social Media.

Debby Lee reviewed the MQG blog discussion on “The Road to Best in Show”.
