Ben Darby, a member of the Heritage Quilters of Huntsville guild, presented a trunk show of his award winning quilts. Notable quilts included the Ode to Joy quilt, the Space Quilt, the Word Quilt and the memory quilt made from his father’s pajamas and shirts.
Pam discussed the Board’s proposal to take $400 from the guild savings account to pay for Business Liability insurance. This will be a recurring annual cost to the guild which will be factored into future budgets. The insurance is designed to protect and defend the guild from covered claims alleging that the guild damaged someone’s property, injured them or defamed them. The members voted unanimously to purchase the insurance.
Amanda provided information on the upcoming Introduction to Serging Workshop to be held at Calico Cove on July 29th, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at a cost of $125 for members.
Pam discussed the Celebrate Quilting Community event to be held in September. The raffle quilt tickets will be available at the Sew Signment sale; $1.00 for one entry; $5 for six entries.
Amanda reminded members to respond to the MQG Challenge Quilt Survey. Only the first 80 quilts submitted will be accepted into the 2024 QuiltCon show. The guild will make a decision on participation based on the interest in the survey.
Danica reviewed current events with The Modern Quilt Guild, including the June inspiration of Rainbow Colors for Pride month; the MQG Sew Along of the Criss Cross Chain pattern; the Make a Difference Challenge with a theme of biodiversity; and QuiltCon 2024, including available scholarships, workshops and lectures, and registration information.
Amanda reminded members to review the volunteer opportunities, noting we always have community outreach projects that need attending to, we need someone to test and kit projects for the retreat, and the Celebrate Quilting event activity kits and display board.
Amanda noted the 2023 retreat registration is still open for members and non-members. The retreat logo is available on Zazzle for ordering on t-shirts, aprons, tote bags, etc. Members are reminded that it can take several weeks for the custom printed items to be received.
Amanda noted that the Potluck Party Challenge reveal is in July. Members should be working on their auction items.
Debby discussed the proposed workshop on designing a pictorial quilt to be taught by Paula Newquist. Members are to select an individual photograph to make a quilt. The workshop will be held over two weekends. Members should respond to the potential workshop dates survey.
